Lawnside Day 2023 | Reloaded

Lawnside Day 2023

Written by Cutty

It was the 52nd Lawnside Day this past weekend in Lawnside, NJ, and the community came out and showed up to this epic event. It was so amazing to see the youth have a platform to shine bright. This eventful day started right with a celebratory parade and car show that started on Warwick Road. This was all before we ran into the 100+ vendors and kid's activities at the actual Lawnside Day. We saw parents out there supporting their kids, community leaders talking with the people, and we saw a bunch of smiles on the faces of the kids. We got to see some people make their debut at the Lawnside Day and ran into a couple people who have been there for a couple years. So it was dope to see people of all kinds all together to celebrate this day that comes once a year. They had free food and drinks for everyone in attendance to make sure they were energized to do all of the dope things that were going on. They had blow up houses for the kids, and they enjoyed every moment of it; even when it started to drizzle the kids were still playing. The day went on all day and ended with some fireworks for everyone who stayed until the end to finish up this historic event.

There were so many things to do at the 52nd annual Lawnside Day, and seeing the youth from Lawnside School and Lawnside Jaguars dancing to start off the event was a perfect way to start out these festivities that were about to happen throughout the day. It was older people helping these young ladies, and when we spoke with them, they said "There’s nothing like seeing these young girls get the shine after working so hard for months". All of the dancers were talented and had very unique sets. There were even dancers who came from out of state to be part of the show. The car show followed after all the dancers, and we got to see some unique cars come through, as well as a special appearance from the Ruff Ryders. This was a great way to start the event, as there were so many people outside taking photos and parents showing their kids all of the dope cars passing through. After this was all done, we went to get started with Lawnside Day.

When we walked into the park, it was filled with so many faces! Vendors from all over came out to show off their products. It was filled with so many black owned businesses that were all very unique; we saw it all there! There was custom clothing like Mile High; it was hand-drawn paintings, custom made pictures, and even items made out of clay. You could find some jewelry, that was handmade, you could try different foods, and of course, they had some souvenirs you could take home. They did free face painting for the kids, and you saw so many kids running around with fresh face paint on, and they loved every moment of it. They had plenty of games for the kids outside of the blow up houses; they had a game truck in the back so the kids could play video games while waiting for the show to start, and it was definitely a line as the kids came in groups to enjoy it. We ran across older people out there doing their business who had just started. When we asked them how they were enjoying the event, they responded, "This event is important for all of us Lawnside residents; it brings us out of the house and brings us together. It’s always nice to see people you haven’t seen in years." I think everyone felt the same way. There were so many amazing moments at Lawnside that the only way to know about them all is to show up to the yearly event, which is every last Saturday of June. We spoke with the VP, and she let us know this event will keep going and growing for years to come. We hope to see you at the next one.

Find Out Where You'll Be Performing At This Summer

Written by Cutty

Everyone in the music industry has an opinion on where you should be performing. There are a lot of factors that play out when you discover where you are. Have you done shows before? Are you confident performing live? How many people can you bring out? Are you fully prepared financially for your own show? These are all questions you can ask yourself to see exactly where you’re at performance wise. In the beginning of a music career, I always say to take as many opportunities as possible to get your feet wet and to build up your contacts. You may feel differently, so this will help you identify where you should be performing and which shows you can avoid. Performing your music live will always come with a benefit, even if you only get one new fan. Find out where you’re at and start getting on stages and growing inside your career. You don’t know who your next fan could be; they could be waiting to meet you.

Open mics

Open mics are great for artists who just want to practice or just hit a stage period. Open mics allow everyone on stage because it’s an opportunity for you to start your musical journey. Normally these are small events, thrown on off days, and you’re bringing the crowd or performing in front of artists who are new to the music scene. Use these if you’re new to breaking the ice with performing. These types of events are low pressure; you can mess up and nobody will notice. They just want to see dope talent and see you for the first time. These are also more affordable; most open mics are either free or have a small fee attached to them. If you want to practice a new song, hit an open mic and see what the crowd tells you about it. Overall, these types of events are stepping stones, and most artists have experienced them. Use them to your advantage.

Showcases

A good showcase is filled with value; it has some shakers in the building looking for the next big thing before they blow. A lot of them are competitive and come with a prize for the best artist. This is where you found out how good you are after those open mics. Artists come here searching for an opportunity since the crowd is filled with artists and their fan bases. You should use these shows strictly for the value attached to them. Whether that’s meeting an A&R or winning some free studio time. There is always something you can win at a showcase, and you have a chance to meet other artists who are more talented than the ones at an open mic. You can see what works and what doesn't, and you can find out what the music industry is looking for in an artist. These shows have helped a lot of artists make strong connections that they use to this day. Take advantage of the moment and dominate. If you lose the prize, then look at what the winner did right so that you can add to your performance.

Your own shows

This stage is probably the most expensive outside of huge festivals, but in all fairness, at this point you can fill up a room by yourself, and you’ll have no problem getting the money back on the backend. By the time you get here, you will already be locally famous, people will support you, and you will have developed a following. People love to skip the first two and jump to this, but a wise music industry expert knows better. It costs way more to throw your own successful show than to pay for a slot on a show. You pay the DJ, Venue, Security, and any other additional services. You’ll know once you’re here because your fanbase will let you know. Once you know you can put 150+ people in a room, this is when you start throwing your own shows. You’ll see the benefit from it, not waiting for 20 artists to perform or getting a bad performance slot. You make all the rules and can do what makes you happy. You can really put together an unforgettable show that your fans will remember for years to come. You can sell merch, give out special items, and do so much more. It’s really an enjoyable process once you get past the expenses. Just don’t skip steps, come here when you’re ready, and you’ll enjoy the process.

Festivals

This is the fun part of being a musician. Performing in front of thousands of people, going through the backstage experience, and everything else festivals come with. This is when you know you’ve mastered having a fanbase, knowing how to work the stage, and you’re turning into a star. Festivals and stadiums are for the big dogs, and if you’re in the building, then that’s who you are. It’s either a big payment to perform or a big paycheck being paid to you. That’s how festivals go; it’s the best benefit you can get out of performing and being seen by thousands of people all at once. Some of the biggest stages in the world are festivals, and artists love to perform on them. It’s the rush of all of those people loving your music that makes you feel the most alive. This is the professional level of performing live right here. So when you’re here, everything above is practice for you; you’re turning into a star. Enjoy the moment.

So this is my advice for you: take what holds onto you and release what doesn't, but it's officially summer time, so you don’t want to miss the moment to gain some new fans. Take the stage, get some photos and videos, and let the world know who you are. It’s nothing like performing in front of people to remind you why you make the music you do. It’s the best feeling in the world, so go get it. What stage are you hitting this summer?

Rhythm & Brews | Fathers Day Edition

Rhythm & Brews | Fathers Day Edition

Written by Cutty

Your favorite monthly event is back, "Rhythm and Brews," and at a perfect time, right before Father’s Day. It was packed, as everyone was excited to see the night’s lineup. Hosted by the dopest podcast crew, Wash This Podcast, it was a good night to be at the Spellbound brewery in Mount Holly, NJ. The night consisted of many talented artists who blessed the stage. Rhythm and Brews is always a good time because you never know what to expect; it’s always a new show every time. The crowd was ready for another amazing night, though, as they came early and had their beers ready to go. We got to see some returning faces like Dre Artist and Ninetty from PS and some new faces like Jay The Genius, Trippy Trip, and Elli Bands. We were in for another great night, as we expected.

The whole show was a vibe from start to finish, and it’s always good to see artists like ER Black and Jay The Genius perform their music. They have such a unique sound that inspires you. They don’t really speak on violence or treating women badly; it’s a lot of uplifting music that is a pleasure to listen to. Jay the genius was a new face for us, but his energy was felt all throughout the room as the people rocked out to his set all night long. Another new face that got some good feedback is Elli Bands. Coming all the way from Pennsylvania, he brought a different element to the show for sure. All the hip-hop fans loved his set as he spoke directly to us. You could hear the fire bars, and it made you jump up and down after you heard him spit. He blew us away, for sure. We were also able to catch some of Trippy Trip’s performance, which was another mind-blowing one for us. We didn’t expect the music to be that amazing; his bars were really high level, and his hype man also brought a different element to the performance.

We always love to see returning faces on the show. Ninetty from PS and Dre Artist, precisely as they always give us a show. This performance was very special, seeing as Ninetty brought out his daughter on Father's Day weekend to join his set with him. It was so inspiring to see a father and daughter bond on stage, and we found out later that she wrote one of the songs they performed together. This was a great way to start Father’s Day weekend for every father in the building. Dre Artist gave us a legendary performance; he performed his new song "Deep Water," which the people went crazy for. Dre Artist puts a lot into his performances, and the people love to reciprocate the energy back to him. He also let us know he is dropping more singles this summer, as he is just getting started. Everyone who touched the stage came with their own excellence, and we were blown away by the time we left. We have some exclusive interviews coming to our YouTube channel for you to see; stay tuned for that. Make sure to stay updated with Rhythm and Brews, as it’s coming up in July.

Jimmy Dinero Celebration Candle Lighting

Jimmy Dinero Celebration Candle Lighting

Written by Cutty

It was an emotional weekend as Nine 2 Five, family, and friends came out to celebrate Jimmy one last time before the funeral. It was people from all over at the event showing their love to Jimmy, and the most beautiful thing there was the reconnection of people who hadn’t seen each other in years. All of these people are here for Jimmy, with everyone having a different experience with him to share. His family was there, holding it down the way Jimmy would have wanted. You can definitely expect to see a couple of Bel Air bottles floating around, as it was one of Jimmy’s favorite turn up drinks alongside tequila. It was plenty of cups as everyone shared with each other to keep Jimmy’s spirit flying high in the sky. He was smiling and dancing with everyone who was there.

Jimmy was loved in more ways than one. He was a dancer who filled people’s hearts with love and inspiration, seeing the joy he brought to people. He was a father who led by example with his kids, showing them how to properly live life. He was an artist whose words touched the hearts of thousands and changed the way you saw a Latino hip-hop artist. He was also a pioneer of Nine 2 Five, which will now be carried by his team, which plans to create more with the community and keep Jimmy’s name around for years to come. There are many things to say about Jimmy Dinero, but we all have different experiences with him, and he left behind plenty of love, which you could tell by everyone who showed up to the candle lighting.

It was a great time seeing everyone come together and share this moment together. You could hear stories being told and emotions being shared. Jimmy’s catalog of music was played throughout the whole event, and many people went home listening, which, since he is an independent artist, can go right back to his family. So play as much Jimmy Dinero as you can whenever you get a chance. He left behind a legacy, a blueprint, and so many experiences with so many different people. We know he is happy with how we celebrated him. It was great to see them all there in love for Jimmy. We will never let his name be forgotten. #JimmyLivesOn

Sincerely, Himothy Album Review | Marty Ranzten

Sincerely, Himothy Album Review

Written by Cutty

We finally got some new Marty Rantzen, and we are proud to say he did not miss on this album. Marty Rantzen is one of South Jersey’s stars in the independent music scene, and he has blessed us with another project. It is clear that he is letting us know that he hasn’t gone anywhere and that the music and bars are still the same but elevated. Sincerely Himothy is Marty’s latest project and is filled with 12 tracks and a whole lot of Marty Rantzen. He talks about some past things and some future things, and he lets the people know where he has been recently. He prefers to let his music do the talking in most situations, and we are happy to say this project did just that. You can hear the dedication put into this project and its execution. The intro itself reminds you of what you love about Marty. As we dove deeper into the album, it just got better and better.

The project starts out with the song "Curry Slide II," which is a personal favorite of ours. If you're a new Marty Rantzen fan, then you get to hear who he is as an artist, and if you have heard projects in the past, then you turned up your speakers because you knew you were in for a treat. He speaks on his life and how he has shaped it to be what it is today musically. Marty has been through a lot in the past, and this project brings that out. We also enjoyed the dedication piece to DMX that follows next; he shows love to the rapper who has recently passed away, and to many fans, that was a favorite of theirs. You get to hear what fuels Marty the most, which is that he is him and you can not defeat him even if you tried. Going through the life that he had and surviving, you can feel the confidence through the speakers. The first two songs alone can drive you to finish the album.

Our personal favorites were "I Been" and "Ticket," in which "I Been" lets you in on Marty’s life and how he views it. With all of the success he has had, people think it was just a yellow brick road, but the artist goes in and tells you just how he got to where he is today. With past traumas in his life, he used them to fuel his career today. He has put himself in a position of elevation, showing he has learned from his past, and definitely opened up about it. The song "Ticket" truly shows why Marty is not your normal rapper, and in the song, he goes on to tell you what makes him different. Speaking strictly from the streets, he gives you a dose of how things went growing up. The lessons he has learned and the abundance it has brought from doing things differently from everyone else. The album is another masterpiece by Marty, and in our eyes, he is still in the Top 5 in New Jersey. He has a lot of options on this tape, that can appeal to anyone who loves good rap music. What’s your favorite song? Let us know in the comments. Make sure to stream "Sincerely, Himothy" today.

In Celebration Of Jimmy Dinero

We Celebrate A Fallen Angel
Jimmy Dinero

Written by Cutty

The heavens gained another angel today as we got the news that Willingboro native Jimmy Dinero, aka James Dominguez, has passed away due to drowning in AC. Jimmy Dinero, born September 20th in the Bronx, NY, was more than an artist; he was a friend, a son, a dancer, a podcaster, and the creator of his own empire. Jimmy has inspired many people during his walk on Earth. Going all the way back to his PG-13 days when he used to dance in Willingboro High School hallways. Later in life, he transitioned to being a musician and blessed us with amazing music. Willingboro has many stars, and Jimmy Dinero was one of them.

Jimmy Dinero spent his downtime traveling with friends and creating memories outside of New Jersey. His music video for "Loco," which was his first 100K song ever, was shot in Cali-Columbia. Which sparked the inspiration for everyone back home. Being able to see someone from NJ get these kinds of numbers and do it in another country inspired South Jersey artists. He then followed up with another amazing song, "Tranquil," that also went over 100K views, bringing the same energy as Loco. His music was one of a kind, as he brought a happy spirit to you as you listened to his music.

Jimmy also collaborated with other artists on projects that were very successful. The project "Richfriend$" was played out of every car in NJ from north to south. The release party in Mount Holly was filled with close friends, business partners, and supporters of the artist. He created a sound that was desirable and unmatched. He helped many artists and people from NJ get to a higher platform by being so generous, which made him and his friends create "Nine 2 Five". Which was an empire Jimmy was apart of, helping his people around him rise to a higher level. His mission is still not done, as his team will carry it on in his name.

Jimmy Dinero will be forever remembered in our hearts for the things he has done. He was a very giving person and made sure everyone around him had fun, so today do us all a favor. Watch a music video, listen to one of his songs, and spread the good times you had with Jimmy. He is now watching over us all; let’s make him proud. #JimmyLivesOn

Stay Humble Stay Hungry Clothing Line Changing The Philadelphia Scene

All Hail To Stay Humble Stay Hungry
Clothing Brand

Written by Cutty

Stay Humble Stay Hungry clothing had a grand opening at the Philadelphia Mills Mall this past Saturday. The event started at 2 p.m., but some people had been camping out since 7am to be able to get a chance to meet Isaiah Thomas, aka Minister Zay. Someone whose word is heavily respected in the Philadelphia area, starting out selling water in 2018 and now having his 5th store open up for his brand, has inspired many with his story. He helps out the community as much as possible, even during trying times, by sending out positive Instagram posts for people to reshare. The people were ready for all of the goods he brought back from China after spending a month out there creating new items for the clothing brand. This is the biggest the brand has been, and Zay says, "This is only the beginning of what’s to come." He has many things coming to not only Philly but the surrounding cities as well.

The brand Stay Humble Stay Hungry started in 2017, selling out of the back of Zay’s car. He would deliver all around Philly and also be at all the hot spots giving away some free clothes just to spread the word about the brand. His time would come as he opened up store location #1 to now being here at the opening of his 5th store in 5 years with the brand. The kids of the community go crazy over the clothes; we can say it’s the closest thing that resembles with the community that the kids attract to it. With the energy you get from the store and all the employees, you can see why people love to be in any of their stores. This store was special because of all of the games inside the store for the kids to play while they were shopping. It makes the whole experience that much better; we've seen kids play the games and smile from ear to ear. It was good to see how much your idea can make other people happy.

The grand opening itself was majorly successful. He had over 200+ people waiting for the ribbon to be cut and to be the first one in the streets with the new humble gear. The brand had various items inside the store for people to get, from googles, slides, bags, complete clothing sets, and even some exclusive pieces that haven’t hit the market yet. They're all for the people who came for the grand opening. He had Da Cooler Boyz outside giving away free water ice for the people waiting in line to get in. The kids were ready to get their hoodies for school so they could show off the new drip. The line lasted pretty much all day as more and more people came out to support the brand. We even saw employees from other stores take a quick break from working to come to see what all the commotion was about. A lot of people left out happy as the store was sold out at the end of the night, and a lot of new people got their hands on what’s to come in the summer of 2023.

Zay’s family was also in attendance for the event to watch the history go down. It was amazing to see him doing all of this in front of his parents, showing them anything is possible with hard work and a dream. Being the first in his family to have an idea like this, he is proud when he sees his family seeing him receive all of this love. His mom made sure to show how proud she was of him as she was seen walking throughout the store, asking the customers about their experience. The employees of the store made sure everyone was having a good time too, dancing along with kids, setting up the games for the ones waiting, and making sure to get your size of clothing if you had any inquiries. It was good to see the team surrounding the brand, and I can see this going very far in the future. As of right now, it’s easy to say that Stay Humble Stay Hungry is making a name for themselves in the tri-state area.

Exclusive Interview W/ Zay

Dominate the Summer Music Scene with This Winning Strategy.

Use These Tips To Have A Hot Summer

Written by Cutty

It's almost summertime, and it's a fresh start for you if you are a music artist. There will be many opportunities coming up, and we want to make sure you've taken advantage of them all. Every summer is your chance to make it if you still haven't made it to where you want to be. With long nights, early mornings, and sunshine every day, it's the perfect time for you to run into the opportunity you have been waiting for. So what is something you can take advantage of in the summertime? Well, let's go over a few things, and you can apply what works for you best to your summer. This could be the summer that changes your life, so make sure you take notes.

Releasing Music

If you haven't dropped any music all year, the summertime is the best time to drop some of the heat you were making in the winter. People are out of school, and other people are spending days together with some of their best friends they haven't seen all year. Everyone is listening to music, so this is your opportunity to find new fans. You want to be an option to listen to at these BBQs, baby showers, graduation parties, or just for all the people in the club. Clubs are filled during the summer, so getting on a DJ playlist is the best thing to do during the summer. Pick a song you love, get cover art made, and drop that music. The summertime is the best time.

Performing Live

Venues, clubs, and even parties are filled during the summertime. This is even the best time to get people to come to your shows. People want something to do for the night in the summertime. It's much easier to catch a crowd in the summer than in any other season. Take full advantage of this and perform live as much as you can in the summertime. There will be many opportunities as promoters know, people want something to do, and artists want to perform their music. This is a win-win situation for both parties, so if you couldn't find a show, in the summertime they will be everywhere.

Drop Merchandise

Everyone wants to create memories, and when you release limited edition merchandise, they will always remember that memory. So while you are having an increase of people's attention, make it memorable. Give them some clothing so they can remember that moment forever. It's something that will easily make you the talk of the town. People love to share where they got an awesome shirt from. Make sure that the awesome shirt they are wearing is something you created. In the summertime, you are also more likely to see an increase in people willing to buy merchandise.

Engage With Your Fans

This is the best time for you to turn your fanbase into your lifetime tribe. You can throw meet and greets, personal events, and even go live on your social media to talk with the ones who have been watching you. You have this opportunity to engage with your fans; you can create time where you solely focus on what you're going to do with your fans. This will make them feel important and make them lifetime fans. People love being recognized if you have a chance to open your world to your fans. Let them in; you will see that it will be worth it in the long run.

In conclusion, the summer is coming up, and we gave you a couple of things you can focus on this summer that can help you dominate the music scene. We all want to be prepared for the future, so before June 21st comes, write down what you want to do for the summer and start getting ready to take action. Your fans will be in a perfect position to see your new creations. You have a chance to bring to light something you have been working all winter on, use the summertime to release it, and give your fans new memories.
