Dre Carter Hits Another Milestone
Written by Terrance Stone
South Jersey’s own Dre Carter showed up and showed out with an electrifying freestyle on Hip-Hop Wired, an exclusive moment that’s got the culture buzzing. The clip dropped recently on YouTube via Hip-Hop Wired under the title “South Jersey’s Own, Dre Carter w/ An Exclusive Hip-Hop Wired Freestyle”. But the buzz didn’t stop there, JID, the acclaimed Dreamville lyricist, publicly showed love for Dre on Instagram, calling attention to the talent growing just down the Turnpike. And it's not just respect from peers, Hip-Hop Wired also named Dre Carter one of their “Artists You Gotta Listen To In September,” noting his rising momentum, his new single “What’s Love?” featuring Dom_Brady, and the significant co-sign he’s earned from JID. Together, it’s a powerful trifecta of exposure, validation, and forward motion, one that’s poised to elevate his profile across the hip-hop scene.
With everything Dre has been accomplishing lately, from landing a feature on Hip-Hop Wired, to earning a co-sign from JID, to having his music placed in NBA 2K24, it’s clear he’s no longer just an artist to watch but one carving out his spot in the culture. Every move feels like another building block in a bigger story, one that’s rooted in South Jersey but now reaching audiences worldwide. And if the freestyle below is any indication, Dre Carter is only getting started.
And if you didn’t know, Dre Carter already has his music in the game. His track “No Smoke” featuring Dom_Brady, Twista, and NaiqwanWanya was officially added to the NBA 2K24 soundtrack on December 1st, right alongside some of the biggest names in hip-hop. For an independent artist out of South Jersey, that’s a massive milestone, millions of players across the world can now hoop to his music every time they load up the game.
The NBA 2K franchise has always been a cultural tastemaker, bridging basketball and hip-hop, and Dre’s inclusion proves his sound belongs on that global stage. Between his Hip-Hop Wired freestyle, the JID co-sign, and his music living inside NBA 2K, Dre Carter is stacking moment after moment, and it feels like the world is finally catching up to what his fans already knew.
